How Many Pallets Fit in a Standard Trailer?
Understand pallet floor positions, dimensions, stackability, payload and practical loading constraints.
A nominal pallet count is only the start of a loading plan. Pallet dimensions, orientation, stackability, payload, axle distribution and product restrictions can become the real limit.
Euro pallet and industrial pallet
A Euro pallet is commonly 1,200 × 800 mm, while an industrial pallet is commonly 1,200 × 1,000 mm. Their different footprints change the number of floor positions possible in the same trailer.
Why “33 Euro pallets” is only a starting point
A standard European semitrailer is often planned around 33 Euro-pallet floor positions under ideal dimensional assumptions. Damaged pallets, protruding goods, load-securing space, mixed pallet sizes or equipment restrictions can reduce usable positions.
Payload can become the limit first
Heavy pallets may reach the vehicle's validated payload before the floor is full. The correct question is whether weight, floor positions and volume all remain within the validated limits.
Stackability changes utilization
Safe stacking can improve use of vertical space. Non-stackable pallets can leave substantial empty air while every floor position is occupied.
Mixed loads need a layout check
Mixed pallet sizes can create unusable floor space. Delivery sequence and customer segregation can also prevent the mathematically densest arrangement.
